We have a pretty good handle on the 1963 Raiders as far as their uniform combos go...except for one instance.

1963 (sleeve numerals light all season long):

9/7 at Houston: Light numerals, solid black socks
9/28 at New York: Light numerals, solid black socks
10/5 at Buffalo: Unknown
10/11 at Boston: Thick black numerals, solid black socks
10/27 at San Diego: Thick black numerals, thin stripes on black socks
11/8 at Kansas City: Thick black numerals, thin stripes on black socks
11/28 at Denver: Thick black numerals, thin stripes on black socks

As you can see, the game in question falls right smack in the middle. Torso numbers counld have been silver or black. Socks could have been solid black (likely) or may have included the thin stripes.

Verification should be a breeze as the year after this (1964) Buffalo went to uniforms like their recent throwbacks while the year before (1963)the Raiders were still using their black and yellow uniforms. Anybody able to provide a photo for us?

Sorry for hijacking this thread, but I need to conduct a little test. Can the rest of you see this vid? I got in trouble with YT over a copyright claim, and I need to see if people can watch embedded "private" vids like this one. So, does it work on your end?

For me, when I click on it it says "This video is private."

It says "private" for me too.

Back to the original topic -- it's amazing that October 5, 1963 is the game you need data for -- it was the October 5, 1962 Raiders game that was the missing piece in the Broncos light-helmet, dark helmet debate. It could mean that date, October 5, inherently contains some sort of cosmic significance. Almost as if it were the junction point for the entire football uniform debate space-time continuum. On the other hand, it could just be an amazing coincidence.

Or perhaps it's the fact that World Series games were played on both days and dominated the newspaper space...

Not to mention that both were night games, so that the morning newspapers (especially in non-AFL cities) were likely only concerned with getting a game account, if that. In the case of the Denver contest, the late ending of the game presumably meant that Eastern newspapers had nothing (or little) on the game, while the Buffalo game had to find space amid a sea of college football games--and the aforementioned World Series.

Dudes, we are seriously overthinking this!

Where are those Denver Broncos guys when we need them? Can't one of them walk down to the Denver Library, pull out the microfiche/microfilm for October 5 of 1962 and 1963 and just be done with it?

Heck...just plug your flux-capacitor into that DeLorean you keep out back under the tarp and go back to 1962/1963 and buy a tickets to the games. Can't be more than what $5 ticket for each and $1 parking? $12 and we'd solve 2 riddles in one night and get to see a double-header!
I sound like a VISA commercial. Better go get some sleep.
