Just a warning for all who are using the Getty Images site for research...please note that they are not infallible when it comes to photo dates. I have come across many shots which are labelled with the wrong year. So please try and cross-check when coming up with any "new" discovery on Getty.

Most of them are properly dated in the information, but during a search they come up with other dates because it'll say "circa 1970's" or something similar.

As far as specifically dating the games, they're pretty accurate. I understand there are some incorrect dates, but for the most part, they correct date & game will be on the photo information/details page.

I'm not saying it's commonplace for their dates to be off, but it's not unheard of. For example...

They claim this game is from 1969 when one look at the refs shirt proves it can't be from after 1967 (that's when they stopped wearing the red stripes)...

I know that, I was just saying it's not as common as lots of people would think. Many people see "1970" and assume that's when it from, but they have grouped photos like that date back through the 60's.

The one like you posted is incorrect right in the details, which is what I meant when I said if they're incorrect, it'll be in the details, not necessarily the search.

These reasons are why, despite the b/w images, my key source of research is newspaper archives; whether by online archives or by microfilm. The papers almost always carry the photos from the previous day's games.

It's worth the extra effort to research at the library from the microfilm. I use Getty and uspresswire and AP wire image as supplementary research for details and color that can't be found in the papers.

Having done a ton of this research myself for a project I am working on, I can say that nothing is as useful as newspaper stories from the time of the teams. There are a lot of photos from a lot of people that are certain they have correct dates and I don't knock them for being off. I have read endless copies of newspapers in Chicago and Milwaukee and Detroit and Cleveland. To read the stories which often contain a description of the uniforms an the colours of them is priceless. The combination of a photo and the story can not be eaten by any photos liste by any source.

Thank you to all those that do post any of the photos though as it is that sort of thing that will draw so many more people into memories and thoughts and hours upon hours of web surfing.
