1957 Eagles at LA Rams

I was looking at this USC site and found they had a few NFL picture sets.

You would have to look through the pages. I saw Redskins and Rams. Lions and Rams. 49ers and some others.

This says 1957 as the year. I see the Eagles are wearing white pants and white jerseys.

This set has the Browns vs Rams. It says 1957. The Browns have no numbers on helmets. I know dates these were labeled could be wrong.

Or, since it was an exhibition game, the Browns could have been waiting until the start of the regular season to display their new helmets.

I looked through most all the pages last night. Some very clear although b&w pictures of games from the 50's.

Yes I saw that Browns game was early in September.

From 1951-74, the Browns traveled for an exhibition game in L.A. (and for most of the years to S.F. as well) in a game that would benefit L.A. Times charities.

In these 1958 images vs the Giants, the Rams front and back numbers have a white outline (the sleeve numbers are plain yellow.) In the database you have the Rams as wearing yellow numbers with no outline. I don't know if this was the case for the entire season or if it will require the "worn only during preseason" designation.

OK - I did a little research on the USC site, here's what I found.

In the '58 regular season vs. Chicago in November, the Rams are wearing the plain yellow numbers.



However, in December against Green Bay the white outlined numbers resurfaced.



Looks like 1958 was a season of mix & match for the Rams.

Any chance the library got the years wrong on the pictures? Not that that ever happens.

I cross referenced the date of the Giants preseason game with my Giants media guide - that one is also from 1957.

I guess my suggestion is a big NEVER MIND after all!
