Steelers TV Numbers 1970 to early 1990's
First off great site! I can tell I'll be wasting a lot of my work hours here.
Check out this picture of Terry Bradshaw:
It looks like the TV numbers are somewhere in between being on the sleeve and being on top of the shoulder. There are a number of other examples as well.

Thanks Friday133, its been a long couple of days here. We looked into this way back when and came to the conclusion that if we put the numbers 'right there,' there's be no way to make them look right. One of the limitations of the 2-D template is, along with the omission of helmet numbers, that TV numbers MUST be placed on the shoulder pads facing up or on the sleeves. I was never able to crack 'wrapping the one' from the top down around to the side and make it worth it. As with your last picture, Franco's numbers are clearly facing up on his shoulder pads. If Swanny or Terry had any kind of shoulders, their's would likely be facing upwards, too. :)
Must be a Steeler fan! By the way, my Dad is a season ticket holder still since 1977. Many a Sunday (and usually cold ones!) were spent in Section 603 (2 sections to the right of the upper deck scoreboard), Row L, seats 1 and 2 (I always ended up with seat #2!).

I'm glad you brought this up, Friday.
When the Steelers adopted this style in 1968, the TV numbers were certainly not on the sleeve, but they were definitely not all the way up the shoulders, like the Cowboys, Saints in the day. I believe this was the method all the way thru 1996. Rather unique, but like Bill says, almost impossible to duplicate on our template. So, because they definitely well above the sleeve area, we defaulted to the shoulders.
Appreciate the keen eye, Friday!
Oh, Bill...
Where does your dad sit at Heinz Field these days?

It seems like you guys have looked into everything! Thanks for the response, and you're right a Steelers fan, I'm looking into Heinz Field as I type this.

Not to be a smartass, but would placement like this work?
For the record, that's a 30 degree rotation on the numbers that were already there, then I just moved them down as far as possible without overlapping the template lines.
