The 1 on 1961 Chargers white jersey

In the photo below, the bottom of the one on Jack Kemp's jersey looks as if it has a sharper edge than the usual flat appearance. It could just be an optical illusion, but it stood out when I saw it:

I think its a bit of an illusion due to the creases in the jersey. The seriffed base of the 1 should be the same as Mix's 4.

Too bad the caption lists them playing the Giants when it should be the Titans. 1961 puts it smack in the middle of AFL/NFL seasons. The leagues did play each other in preseasons but October is a little late for that.

It was the Titans -- they didn't play any inter-league preseason games until much later, I believe. It was probably a case of a non-football fan correcting the caption --- "this guy wrote Titans, doesn't he know that New York's football team is the Giants?! Even I know that!"
