Week 8 - 2022 2022-04-07-1

Thursday April 7, 2022 - 8:15PM
(0-6) Vancouver Bears at (2-4) San Antonio Texans
Line: SA -3
O/U: 45
Win Pct: SA 57.3%
Fiesta in the Alamodome, or at least in the city of San Antonio, regardless of how the Texans do, although, this game will be an opportunity for the Texans to get a win in a season that seems could be lost at this point. The Bears played another decent game, but again, they just can’t seem to get that elusive first win. Maybe this is the game for Vancouver to get that W.

Sunday April 10, 2022 - 1:00PM
(1-5) Atlanta Flying Fleet at (4-3) Washington Stars
Line: WAS -0.5
O/U: 43.5
Win Pct: WAS 51.6%
The Stars are continuing a downward trend, but this week will be a good opportunity to turn things around. Atlanta hasn’t won a game since week 1, and they are looking like the team we saw last year, even though this year's team has some better players.

Sunday April 10, 2022 - 1:00PM
(6-1) Boston Bobcats at (4-2) Carolina Reapers
Line: CAR -1
O/U: 47
Win Pct: CAR 53.3%
This should be a good matchup, and a game with a lot of fireworks. Although Boston’s offense has slowed down the past couple of weeks, the matchup against Carolina should get things rolling again. Knowing how Carolina has played games this season, I expect this game to be high scoring, in the upper 30’s, lower 40’s for each team, with a close finish. Should be a fun watch. This game could also have some playoff seeding implications down the road, as both teams are on top of their divisions, and in pretty good control of them at the moment.

Sunday April 10, 2022 - 1:00PM
(2-5) Jacksonville Captains at (2-5) Baltimore Bluebirds
Line: JAX -9.5
O/U: 45
Win Pct: JAX 74.5%
Injuries are starting to take their toll on the captains. This team was expected to be one of the better teams in the league, but they have been hit by the injury bug as bad as anyone in the early goings of the season. Jacksonville’s goal right now should be to get wins when they can now, to help them out later when players start getting healthy again so they can try to make a late push for a wild card spot. Baltimore is a team that can build some confidence with their young players each time they get a win, and I’m sure they will play tough in this one. Their defense is going to have to be the key in this one.

Sunday April 10, 2022 - 1:00PM
(5-2) Louisiana Royals at (7-0) Louisville Lightning
Line: LSV -1
O/U: 50
Win Pct: LSV 53.3%
The big games don’t seem to end for the Lightning. They seem to be tested each and every weekend, but they keep coming through. This will be another big game for both teams. The Royals have bounced back after a slow start, and they will face Louisville in a huge divisional matchup. The Lightning have already one the first game between these two teams this season, so the Royals will really need this one to even things up, and to start and tighten the division. For Louisville, a win would put them in a tremendous position with their schedule starting to finally ease up down the stretch. This is going to be another great game brought to us by the Central division.

Sunday April 10, 2022 - 2:30PM (Berlin, Germany)
(4-3) New York CityHawks at (2-5) Miami Sol
Line: MIA -2.5
O/U: 54
Win Pct: MIA 57.1%
The first of five international series games for the 2022 season will take place in Berlin, Germany. Both New York and Miami are coming off wins in week 7, and they’d like to keep that momentum going on the international stage. New York has been up and down on the year, but they need to keep the momentum going to pull closer to Boston in the division. Miami finally picked up win number two last week on Monday night, and they did so with a dismantling of Jacksonville on the road. This is the Miami team we need to see each week.

Sunday April 10, 2022 - 4:30PM
(4-3) Albuquerque Atoms at (4-3) Seattle Sockeyes
Line: SEA -4.5
O/U: 49
Win Pct: SEA 62.1%
The Atoms are starting to look like pretenders, after they have now dropped three straight games, following a 4-0 start to the season. Last week’s divisional game at home vs Arizona was a dismal effort, especially on the offensive side of the ball. It’s time for this team to regroup. Seattle still is in first place in their poor division, so again, every game is going to mean something as they try and build more of a lead over the rest of the pacific division (mainly Oakland).

Sunday April 10, 2022 - 4:30PM
(2-4) Chicago Maroons at (5-1) San Diego Breakers
Line: SD -5.5
O/U: 52
Win Pct: SD 65.2%
Chicago played tough against Boston last week, who has had one of the better offenses in the league this season, but they ultimately fell short again. Still, their division is so bad, they aren’t exactly in bad shape a game back from the Keystones. They need to force San Diego into the kind of ugle game the Breakers had to win in Vancouver last week. I’m sure the Breakers aren’t going to want to have that kind of performance again though, so I expect they’ll come out a bit stronger in this one.

Sunday April 10, 2022 - 4:30PM
(4-2) Dallas Regulators at (3-4) Oakland Icons
Line: OAK -5.5
O/U: 37.5
Win Pct: 64.6%
Ugly football could be the theme in this game. Dallas has a pretty solid defense, as does Oakland. The Regulators do have a much better offense, so that gives them an edge. Oakland will have to play some good ball control, and as their goal is each week, they will need to find the endzone more often than settling for three points.

Sunday April 10, 2022 - 4:30PM
(1-6) Kansas City Buffaloes at (2-5) Colorado Cabras
Line: COL -6.5
O/U: 42
Win Pct: COL 68.8%
There are no moral victories in this game, just tough losses. Colorado took the undefeated Lightning down to the wire, and lost on a bomb of a field goal; a 59-yarder. That crushing loss better not keep them down though, as they have an easy opponent on tap for this week. Kansas City somehow managed to win a game this year. Don’t know how, because most of the time they’re just awful, last week especially. Time to play better.

Sunday April 10, 2022 - 4:30PM
(1-6) Portland Samurais at (6-1) Arizona Eagles
Line: ARZ -1
O/U: 42.5
Win Pct: ARZ 51.9%
Portland has been so close in so many games, but they just can’t hold on in the end. The prevent defense is preventing them from closing out games in the 4th quarter. In such a bad division, a couple of different outcomes and this team is in the mix in the division. Heck, they still are in the mix in this division, but they have to win. Will that happen this week? Unlikely. Arizona is looking really good right now, and frankly they look very hard to keep out of the endzone, and Portland doesn’t have the offensive firepower to keep up.

Sunday April 10, 2022 - 4:30PM
(3-4) Wisconsin Stags at (3-3) Las Vegas Outlaws
Line: LV -1
O/U: 41.5
Win Pct: LV 51.5%
The momentum is building for the Stags. After an 0-4 start they have gotten themselves three straight wins, and they now sit at second place in the division, just a half game back of the Keystones, who have a tough matchup Monday night. If things go their way again, they could be in first place by Tuesday morning. They will have to find ways around the tough front of the Outlaws pass rush, and keep turnovers to a minimum. The defense should be able to handle the Outlaws offense, so the Stags offense will have to make sure to not give any short fields.

Sunday April 10, 2022 - 8:15PM
(4-3) Salt Lake Trappers at (2-5) Toronto Terror
Line: TOR -6
O/U: 50.5
Win Pct: TOR 64.5%
Good grind it out win for Salt Lake last week, and another underwhelming performance for Toronto. Sunday night, prime time at home. This should light a fire under the Terror, and this is going to be a big game for them in the national spot light. Salt Lake seems to play good against good teams, and play down to worse opponents, and who knows what kind of team Toronto is, so this could be anyone’s game.

Monday April 11, 2022 - 8:15PM
(6-1) Los Angeles Express at (3-3) Pennsylvania Keystones
Line: LA -4
O/U: 47.5
Win Pct: LA 60.1%
The Express looked a little hungover from their first loss to start last week's game, but they pulled it together in the 4th quarter and got back on the winning track. The Keystones on the other hand came out firing on all cylinders from the get-go against the Stars last week, in route to an easy win. This non-conference game will really only have some conference related steaks on the line for either team. Los Angeles will be chasing down a top seed for playoffs, while the Keystones are still holding onto first place in their division, although a win does help them out for a possible wild card spot.

On Bye: (3-4) Birmingham Owls, (4-3) Cincinnati Knights, (3-4) Memphis Demons, (6-1) St. Louis Brewers

Vancouver gets their first win of the season last night, and finally have something to feel good about going into their bye week.

Football is crazy! We lost to San Antonio earlier this season and now we beat Arizona!

In the NFL this happens sometimes....

Yeah, remember that time the Jets beat... well, anyone is usually surprising. But the Rams two years ago, and the Bengals this year.

Other big headline would be the last undefeated team going down. With the win, the Royals even up the season head to head against the Lightning, and pull a game closer in the division (although, that loss to Birmingham in week 1 puts them behind in divisional wins). They have a big game next week against the Brewers, and the Lightning should rebound by blowing out the Buffaloes (at least it's expected they should).

Boston benefits from the Louisville loss, as they move into first in the conference, based on conference win percentage.
