1969 EAGLES
The GUD Community did a great job on the 1966 Cowboys. They are on the way to polishing off (3 left to find!) the 1962 Vikings. Two more are on the horizon. The first is the 1969 Eagles. Can we ID which jersey was worn for each game left on this list? Verification should be easy due to the presence of the "NFL 50" patch on the left shoulder or sleeve.
Week 1 - 9/21 CLE @ PHIL (plain green or striped green?)
Week 2 - 9/28 PITT @ PHIL (plain green or striped green?)
Week 4 - 10/13 PHIL @ BALT (PLAIN WHITE OR STRIPED WHITE?)
Week 6 - 10/26 NO @ PHIL (plain green or striped green?)
Week 7 - 11/2 PHIL @ NYG (PLAIN WHITE OR STRIPED WHITE?)
Week 8 - 11/9 PHIL @ WASH (PLAIN WHITE OR STRIPED WHITE?)
Week 10 - 11/23 PHIL @ STL (PLAIN WHITE OR STRIPED WHITE?)
Week 11 - 11/30 PHIL @ NO (PLAIN WHITE OR STRIPED WHITE?)
Week 13 - 12/14 ATL @ PHIL (plain green or striped green?)
Week 14 - 12/21 PHIL @ SF (PLAIN WHITE OR STRIPED WHITE?)
Remember, for the home games, Philly will be wearing the white helmets, too.
The rest have been photographically verified already.

For the 9/28 game against Pittsburgh, they're wearing the plain green jerseys. See the link below (page 14 of 20)

The 9/21/ opener versus the Browns was also the plain green jerseys, as can be seen in this video (starting at approximately 1:30):

RE: 1969 Eagles
In 1969 the Eagles wore their white helmets w/ their plain white jersey in their 1st 4 pre-season games but the database dose not refelect that.

George Wilsons last season w/ the Dolphins was 1969
[img][/img]

1969 the only season Eagles wore white helmets and played the Lions in North Carolina

Re: 1969 EAGLES
How are you guys doing?? You have all just made my day, I accidentally found your site and my favorite topic of all, the 1969-1973 Eagles uniforms, I collect everything from that era, because I cannot afford to collect everything Eagles in general. I just love those uniforms and helmets. I have over 60 35mm slides of game action from those years, I will have to scan them and post them here for you guys to see, my alltime favorite uniform was the 1969 kelly green jersey with the shoulder stripes and the NFL 50 patch on the shoulder with the white helmets with green wings, what a classic football uniform, would love to see the Eagles wear that again at least as a throwback for a few games a year. Here is that uniform from the December 7, 1969 game at Franklin Field against the Redskins, Eagles lost this game in the snow and ice in a thriller, 34-29

Re: 1969 EAGLES
That is a great picture Bruno, that is one of my favorite Eagles, #72 Wade Key, he was voted onto the Eagles 75th Anniversary team as their all time left Guard, and next to him is #81 Jack Gregory of the Giants. Could someone give me some help on how to post pictures here?? Also, Google 1969 Philadelphia Eagles and the 5th website will be Hulu, they posted the Week 6 game against the Cowboys, this was the NFL Game of the Week in it's entirety and what awesome quality. This is also the only game when the Eagles wore their green jerseys and green helmet with white wings while in Dallas, I guess that the Cowboys chose to wear their white jerseys, which they almost always did. Have a Great Night

Assuming it's Gregory, the photo couldn't be any earlier than 1972, since he was with the Browns until being traded after a contract dispute.

Re: 1969 EAGLES
Hi BD Sullivan, you are correct that this picture could not be before 1972, it is DEFINETLY Jack Gregory, he played for the Giants from 1972-1978, this picture was taken after the last game played at Yankee Stadium Sept.23, 1973, Have a Great Night

1969 Eagles Helmets
I've ordered a 1969 Eagles green RK suspension helmet replica from Charles Waters. I wanted to get the helmet w/white wings and wanted to make sure I got it right. I've looked at some old "This Week in Pro Football " highlights and and tried to find some images . It's been a little confusing because it seems they only used green helmets w/white wings in '69 for a few games. I've seen images of the white helmets for '69 as well . Prior to '69 they used the silver wings and in the images I found it was hard to distinguish whether the wings were silver or white in '69. I came here looking for some help and bingo, I found it immediately. This thread verified for me that they did indeed use the green helmets w/white wings . Did they use the green helmets only during the reg. season and the white helmets only in the preseason ? Thanks.
Edit: OOPS! Went back and read first post. So they wore the white helmets at home it seems . Therefore they wore the green white winged helmets on the road?
Paul

Great video. In regards to the '69 Eagles replica helmet I'm ordering ,I try having the helmet match a particular player from that year. I wanted to order a 1 bar QB/WR/DB RK style.I really like the old school flared ear holes. Watching the video I only saw George Mira and Joe Scarpati w/the 1 bar helmets. What I couldn't tell by watching was whether they wore RKs or TKs. Couldn't find any images online. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome Aboard PSMachetti
I too ordered my 1969 Eagles helmet from Charlie Waters, I have the white helmet with green wings and the 2 bar facemask, he does great work, I also bought a Denver Broncos Floyd Little helmet with the correct number 44 on the back of the helmet and also a 1969 San Diego Chargers Lance Alworth helmet. Yes, the Eagles wore the white helmet with green wings for home games and the green helmet with white wings for away games, did you get the green helmet with white wings?? Another Eagle who wore the helmet with the one bar mask was kicker Sam Baker #38, he passed away in June 2005. Joe Scarpati, who also wore the one bar facemask, was the holder for Tom Dempseys record 63 yard field goal in 1970, he was then traded back to the Eagles in 1971, I will post a few pictures for you, Have a Great Evening

1969 Eagles Helmet
Hey thanks. That would be helpful. Yeah I'm getting the green w/white wings. It's a beautiful style. That's the helmet that always comes to mind when I think of the Eagles.
I was in junior high in '69 and I loved football during that era. My bedroom wall was covered w/ Sports Illustrated football photos and I had those 2 X 3 foot posters. I had the Spider Lockhart and Ron Johnson Giant posters. I watched "This Week in Pro Football" and "The Game of the Week" religiously. I remember TWIPF was on at 11pm on Saturdays in my area and I made a deal w/my mom that I'd go to bed at 8 and she'd wake me up at 11 to watch the show.
I have 3 helmets by Charlie. A '64 Browns 1 bar RK modeled after Frank Ryan's, a '69 Vikings 1 bar RK modeled after Gene Washington's and a 60's Giants RK half cage modeled after Jim Katcavage's (same as the Giant's Huff model). He does great work.
I've watched that Hulu Eagles /Cowboys Game of the Week mentioned in this thread and there were a number of plays w/ Scarpatti and Mira but it's difficult to tell exactly whether they're wearing RK or TK models but I'm leaning toward Scarpatti's being a TK based on what I could make out in the film. I like the RKs flared ear holes better but wouldn't hurt to add a TK to the collection.
Thanks for the welcome. This site is a great resource. Thanks again for the offer to help out.

Re: 1969 EAGLES
thank you for the reply and sorry that im delayed to post one ,regarding the helmet the painted green wings on the white helmet does not even touch by far each back of wing ,i know theres always odities and at the time from 69 to 72 i know more then 1 player wore mcgregors shells...and im not sure if any high school and certainly dont thnink college would have the money or time to waste to have their wings painted as decalling its easier ,quicker and cheaper then having them greatly painted...but i guess the mistery will continue
