Hit List #1 - 1971 49ers **CLOSED**
The updates area has been pretty quiet lately. For good reasons. Rob is working on the site. Tim has made trips to the LOC. And I've been working on the weekly pairups information. This is nearly completed except...
We are missing info for 22 individual games between 1950-1956.
We are missing information for when 5 AFL teams added NOBs during a random point in the 1960 Inaugural Season.
We are missing information concerning 2 teams (4 total seasons) between 1970-73 and their use of mesh vs durene jerseys on an individual game basis.
We are in need of confirmation regarding one aspect of the 1971 49ers.
That will take care of everything. When we get these we will know what was worn for EVERY game from 1950-current.
So first up - the 1971 49ers. I chose to put this one up first because it should be the easiest to confirm.
We know that the Niners wore a stripeless white jersey for Week 1 @ ATL. They also wore stripeless red jerseys for Week 2 @ NO and Week 3 @ Philadelphia. We have been unable, however, to find photographic proof of whether they wore the stripeless red jerseys for any other game after this. There is 1 remaining week during the season that, while we know they wore red (using Tim's "White At Home"), we do not know if they snuck in the stripeless jerseys again. These are the weeks we need to confirm...
Week 4 - 10/10 - home vs LA Rams (53 DEGREES) - striped sleeves (Bill)
Week 5 - 10/17 - home vs Chicago (53 DEGREES) - striped sleeves - (BDSullivan & Chicago Trib.)
Week 7 - 10/31 - home vs New England (52 DEGREES) - striped sleeves (BBL)
Week 9 - 11/14 - home vs New Orleans (49 DEGREES) - striped sleeves (Bill)
While it seems unlikely that, given these gametime temperatures, that SF would wear their 'warm weather' jerseys, we at GUD want to be sure of these things. Thanks in advance, guys.
Bill

In the ONE photo of the Bears-49ers game that the Chicago Tribune had in the 10/18/71 edition, John Brodie was under siege and definitely had three stripes on his red jersey.

The only photo I've found of the 10/31/71 49ers-Pats game is pretty bad, but what looks like stripes can be seen on Vic Washington's right arm:

I'll trust you on the Trib photo of the Bears game but I'm having a tough time seeing anything definitive on the Niners/Pats photo from the old LODI NEWS-Sentinel.

Dark image but stripes on 49ers sleeves can be made out in top left corner.
