While it's likely not to bear much (if any) fruit with regard to uniforms, this site on football trading cards has glimpses of players in uniform from the late 40's up to 1976:

The oddity for Bengals jerseys below caught my eye. I have to imagine the numbers were simply doctored, but it seems like a lot of trouble to go to for some cheap regional issue:
