49'ers "SF" logo - addition of black outline.

This is something I had wondered about for a while. I have DVD's of the Giants-49'ers playoff games in 1986 and 1990. In the 1986 game the "SF" on the Niners helmets is white on red. In 1990 the "SF" was outlined in black. In the database the black outline first shows up in 1991.

I did a little research today, and it appears to me that the black outline was introduced in 1989.

Completely right on that.

If we missed it, I don't know how, because I saw the difference EVEN THEN (in real time)! The micro thin black out line is noticeable on the Super Bowl XXIV helmets and the lack of one is noticeable on the Niners SB XXIII helmets.
