1949 missing photos - 2 missing
So its Spring Break and I thought "What the heck. Let's try and see how bad researching the games in the 40's could be."
With only 10 teams I figured it'd be a little easier. Ah contrare, mon fraire. (SP all over that one!)
College football was definitely king. I saw more photos of William & Mary than Washington Redskins. More Pitt than Pittsburgh.
Irregardless, here are the only ones I'm missing...
9/22 - N - Phil @ NYB
9/26 - N - Wash @ CHC - Skins in burgundy over gold all season - TIM
10/2 - CHB @ CHC - Bears wore navy jerseys w/ orange #s in Wk 1 @ GB! - TIM
10/3 - N - Phil @ Det - TIM
10/8 - N - CHC @ PHIL - Cards likely in maroon helmets for night game - TIM
10/9 - LA @ CHB
10/16 - NYB @ WASH - TIM
10/23 - WASH @ PHIL - TIM
10/23 - DET @ CHC - TIM
11/6 - CHC @ DET - (Bill)
11/13 - PHIL @ WASH - TIM
11/20 - LA @ CHC - (Bill)
11/20 - NYB @ PHIL - TIM
11/20 - CHB @ WASH - TIM
12/4 - NYB @ DET - TIM
With so many variations to look for, if you find any online, please send me the link.
Things to look for...
Cards would wear maroon lids for night games.
Bears may have worn orange pants for 1 or more games.
Lions wore black pants from 1948 a few times as well as blue lids (instead of silver) a few times.
Rams likely in yellow-over-yellow all season except 'fire game @ Detroit.'
Bulldogs wore white or pale blue jerseys - very difficult to tell apart. Look for contrasting light/dark numbers.
Eagles may have worn both plain green and green w/ white stripes from wrist-to-wrist.
Eagles also may have worn green pants with white jerseys in addition to normal grey pants.

I found an Eagle-Redskin photo that is dated 1949
but I can't tell if it's at Philly or at Washington.

It looks like it could be Griffith Stadium, but I'm not sure.

Never thought to look in the Windsor, Ontario, paper for Detroit Lions photos!
This takes care of the 11/6 game.

This is a great one!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9fgmSAClHJ4
I found this 48+ minute YouTube presentation of a 1949 Rams scrapbook.
It's funny to hear how little some of the guys talking know about football.
"The Rams were around before 1949?"
"They played in Cleveland?"
"The Detroit Lions were around back then, too?"
At the 29:00 minute mark they show a photo and article for the 11/20 Rams @ Cards game that ended in a tie - as the article above and to the right of the photo shows.
This was the last Rams game we needed for 1949.
It's a long watch but pretty cool to see.

Re: 1949 missing photos - 2 missing
This comes from my LOC research:
9/26: WSH at CC: Skins burgundy/gold. Cardinals (likely): red helmet, red/white. I'm not think blue jerseys. (Chi Tribune)
10/2: CB at CC: CC white/red/white/red. CB navy/navy (orange #s), white, navy. (Chi Tribune)
10/3: PHI at DET: PHI silver-green/green (solid)/silver/green. DET blue/blue/silver-white/blue. (Det Free Press)
10/8: CC at PHI: CC red/red/white/red. PHI green/solid green/silver/green (helmet solid green)(Phi Inquirer)
10/16: NYB at WSH: NYB silver/white/silver/columbia blue. WSH: gold/burgundy/gold/burgundy-gold. (Wsh Post)
10/23: WSH at PHI: WSH gold/burgundy/gold/bugundy-gold. PHI: silver-green/white/silver/green. (Phi Inquirer)
10/23: DET at CC: DET silver/blue/silver/blue. CC white/red/white/red. (Chi Tribune)
11/13: PHI at WSH: PHI silver-green/white/silver/green. WSH gold/burgundy/gold/burgundy-gold. (Wsh Post)
11/20: NYB at PHI: NYB silver/white/silver/columbia. PHI silver-green/solid green/silver/green. (Phi Bulletin)
11/20: CB at WSH: CB navy/navy (white #s)/orange/navy. WSH gold/burgundy/gold/burgundy-gold. (Wsh Post)
12/4: NYB at DET: NYB silver/white/silver/columbia blue. DET silver/blue/silver-white/blue. (Det Free Press)
I note that in some instances, silver appears almost white.
Hope this helps.

Re: 1949 missing photos - 2 missing
*9/22: Neither the NY Times nor NY Herald Tribune had a photo of the Eagles-Bulldogs game. Yet the HT had a photo of that evening's AAFC clash in New York between the LA Dons and NY Yankees. In the event that info is still needed on that game, the Dons wore their blue jerseys and the Yankees their white.Bill Schaefer wrote:

*10/9: Regarding this game, I was able to get half of the equation answered--the Rams were in their all-yellow ensembles (Chi. Tribune). Frustratingly, the lone photo for this Bears home game was of Elroy Hirsch!
