Re: Helmet decals
This just in....
Vinny did not wear them Week 12 at San Diego...

or Week 13 vs Green Bay in Milwaukee...

but he did have them Week 17 at Phoenix...

So I would close the book and say all of the Bucs' U of M players wore them just the final four weeks... Weeks 14-17. When I get a chance I will watch the whole Rams-Bucs SNF game and see if Mike Patrick & Joe Theismann mention them at all since they apparently added them that week.
To paraphrase Mike Singletary, "I like this kind of research."

Re: Helmet decals
Thanks, Rob.
What a horrible way to have to spend the day!
The Cowboys were wearing theirs for the 10/25 game @ RAIDERS.
Any chance Perriman or Blades (Lions) were wearing them - at least for the second Bucs game?
Or Randall "Thrill" Hill in the last game for the Cards?

I think I got an even better close-up for you.... I'm not sure you did it justice with that last graphic...

Will look for those next.

Re: Helmet decals
No sticker for Blades or Perriman, although all Lions had other sticker mentioned earlier in thread for first Tampa Bay-Detroit game of the year.

Couldn't get a good shot of Perriman, but he didn't have it either. Did, however, get a good shot of Wayne Fontes ready for the London Olympics, about 20 years too early.

Re: Helmet decals
Can't find any photos of Kosar, but the Cleveland Plain Dealer doesn't make any mention of him wearing a decal in any of their articles from that period. Kosar missed 8-9 weeks with a broken ankle (beginning with week 3) and returned in late November.

2012 Eagles - GR
File this one under weird...
I was under the assumption that the Eagles were dedicating their season to Andy Reid's son, Garrett.
However in no photo of Preseason Week 2 does it appear that the Eagles are still wearing the "GR" decal on their helmets.
Preseason Week 1 (the introduction of the decal)

Preseason Week 2 at New England

Going to have to keep eyes peeled on this one.

Re: Helmet decals
No "GR" sticker on the back of the Eagles helmet for last night's game in Cleveland. The front of the jersey also has no patch.

I have to imagine they'll have some memorial for Hall of Famer Steve Van Buren, who passed away on Thursday.

Yeah, I was thinking that too when I saw it Friday morning.
Likely to see a 15 decal next week I bet.
I wonder if it'll only be for 1 week like the GR or for the season.

Re: Helmet decals
if the Eagles have ANY sense of history, they should have a 15 decal for the full season (he merits a jersey patch, but sadly, I don't see that happening). 2 of the Eagles' 3 NFL titles are owed directly to him. He scored the lone touchdown in the 1948 Blizzard Bowl against the Cardinals, and while he didn't score in the 1949 Championship Game against the Rams in Los Angeles, he ran for something like 195 yards in a steady rain.
He led the NFL rushing 3 or 4 times and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1965, the third year of inductees.
It's my personal belief that he remains the greatest Eagle of all time.

Before the arrival of Jim Brown, he was arguably the greatest running back of all time.

With Art Modell's passing, could expect the Ravens to have a memorial decal of some sort (not so sure if Cleveland will due to Art having long been Public Enemy #1 in the Dawg Pound).

I believe four simple words should suffice: No chance in Hell.
I can't believe Mike Holmgren hasn't officially said that they won't have a moment of silence--he's supposedly waiting for word from the NFL. The league can't be THAT tone-deaf to ignore the reaction from fans, but then they're arrogant enough to think fans will accept scab officials.

The Chargers added the "55" decal to their helmet for Junior for their Week 2 home opener. Wonder if its one-and-done or if they'll keep it all season.

1994 Seahawks
Just stumbled across this one looking at the Week 17 NFL PrimeTime on YouTube. During the highlights of the Seattle-Cleveland game; there was a #92 (similar to the 1986 John Tuggle memorial) in being made apparently of extra numerals on the bottom right-hand side of the helmet, which (along with Chris Berman mentioning the injuries and tragedies that soon-to-be-fired coach Tom Flores had seen that year) piqued my interest.
Did some digging and the #92 decal was in tribute to Mike Frier; a defensive lineman who played 3 games before being paralyzed from the neck down in an accident caused by teammate Lamar Smith (who was drunk and forced to pay part of his salary to Frier the remainder of his career).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Frier (info on incident)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VNldqi71zlA&feature=relmfu (where I saw the decal -- 11:39 in)

Re: Helmet decals
Thanks Market.
This was the best I could do on a screen grab. Numbers look pretty rounded - almost like da Bears' number font.

The accident occurred Dec 1, 1994.
The Seahawks played 4 games after the accident...
12/4 - vs Indianapolis
12/11 - @ Houston
12/18 - vs LA Raiders
12/24 - @ Cleveland
The screen grab is from the Cleveland game.
Can we now pinpoint in how many of the 3 previous games in which the 92 was worn also?
This from Google news seems to indicate that the helmet numbers would not be ready for the Dec 4 game...
"… ATTENDS SEATTLE PRACTICE \ SEAHAWKS TO HONOR FRIER AT …
Beacon Journal - ‎4 Dec 1994‎ - Robinson said that Seahawks' players may wear No. 92, Frier's number, on their shoes or on wristbands when they host the Indianapolis Colts today. ... "

2012 Military Appreciation "Camo" ribbon

As predicted, the Camo ribbon was to be being worn for Weeks 9-11.
Sure enough, it's being worn by Chiefs and SD tonight (11/1).
However, players seem to be wearing other (possibly military related) patches next to the CAMO ribbon on their helmets.
I've seen at least 2 different decals during pregame but can't be certain what they are.
http://www.chargers.com/news/press-releases/article-1/Southern-California-to-see-Chargers-Chiefs-game-courtesy-of-corporate-partners/eef9b6c9-8ad2-43f8-9968-5e02c0f27299
This link states in the 6th paragraph that players "will wear special decals on their helmets saluting all five of the major military branches: Marines, Navy, Army, Air Force and Coast Guard."
Now we just need to get images of them!
1st photo...Coast Guard

2nd photo...Air Force

3rd photo...Navy

4th photo...Army

Having trouble on Google Image search finding a perfect match for these. Lots that look almost similar - but not exact.

1992 Cowboys - Jerome Brown and Shane Curry
Bill, I don't know if you want to highlight the fact that Russell Maryland's helmet had the 44 decal above the 98 decal.
Some years ago I took a lot of screenshots from old games and highlight films. So far I documented the following:
week 1 vs Redskins - J.Jones no decal, Roberts no, Irvin no, E.Smith no, Maryland did not play
week 3 vs Cardinals - J.Jones yes (98-44), Roberts yes (98-44), Irvin yes (98-44), E.Smith yes (98-44), Maryland no
week 5 at Eagles - J.Jones ??, Roberts ??, Irvin ??, E.Smith yes (98-44), Maryland ??
week 6 vs Seahawks - J.Jones yes (98-44), Roberts no, Irvin yes (98-44), E.Smith yes (98-44), Maryland yes (44-98)
week 7 vs Chiefs - J.Jones yes (98-44), Roberts ??, Irvin yes (98-44), E.Smith yes (98-44), Maryland yes (44-98)
week 8 at Raiders - J.Jones yes (98-44), Roberts yes (98-44), Irvin yes (98-44), E.Smith yes (98-44), Maryland yes (44-98)
week 9 vs Eagles - J.Jones ??, Roberts ??, Irvin yes (98-44), E.Smith ??, Maryland ??
week 10 at Lions - J.Jones ??, Roberts ??, Irvin yes (98-44), E.Smith yes (98-44), Maryland yes (44-98)

2012 Military decals
While Philly and NO are wearing the camo-ribbon decals tonight (11/5 - Week 9), no one appears to be wearing the decals from the 5 branches of the service.
Did any other teams skip those decals yesterday (Sunday 11/4)?

Re: Helmet decals
Yes, Raiders, Broncos and Bengals come to mind, and Falcons IIRC, and a few other teams... Vikings, Seahawks...
They all had the ribbon, though.
Every team had to choose one week for this "salute to service" thing, maybe there's a connection.
The Raiders are adding the decals this week, I think. There's a photo of an helmet in their facebook page showing one of the five decals.

I just came on here to recommend that someone put together a reference chart for the camo-ribbon helmet decals and military service helmet decals displaying which teams wore them and which didn't.
Thanks for beating me to the punch, Mako.
I'm assuming you'll be continuing this for the next 2 weeks, right?

Cowboys to wear decal to honor Jerry Brown
IRVING, Texas – The Cowboys will wear a No. 53 decal on their helmets to honor the memory of linebacker Jerry Brown for the rest of the season, starting with Sunday’s game against Pittsburgh at Cowboys Stadium.
The Cowboys will also have a moment of silence before the game to remember Brown. The NFL has asked teams to hold a moment of silence for the victim’s of Friday’s school shooting in Connecticut.
