Anyone ever see this giant Dolphins logo from the 1989 preseason??

Folks,

Just found this over on the CCSLC board. It's a screen capture from the Dolphins 1989 preseason, and the logo looks at least 25% larger. However, during the season it was the same size it always was and has been. Anyone know the story on this?



I can only recall a couple of times that teams enlarged their existing logo: the Bills in 1981 (or '82), the Patriots in '81 or '82, and the Buccaneers in '92.

I wonder if it was used in game action or just practice as this appears to be as evidenced by the plain white practice jersey of the "Collared One," 3rd string quarterback, H-back, and special steams standout #11 Jim Jensen!
Doesn't look like the sun was enlarged any - just the dolphin.
I'll see what I can dig up.

Found shots of Miami's 1st and 2rd Preseason games and both look like the normal dolphin to me.

My guess is that the mega-logo was a prototype that they wanted to see on the field.

Here's another, slightly different version (from that same era) I don't recall noticing before, notice the larger space between the bottom of the sun and the Dolphin fin...
