Boston Patriots vs Washington 8/16/70

This is a good one, lots of anomalies here!



Most obviously, Washington has no sleeve stripes.
For the Patriots:
1) No sleeve stripes
2) No TV numbers on the sleeves or shoulders
3) The numbers on the front of the jerseys have a blue outline, something the regular season jerseys lacked

There was a fire in the stands and the spectators had to be evacuated.

Also of note, in the B/W photo, the Patriots do not look to have worn NOBs and the back numbers rested very LOW on the backs as if in for position to allow NOBs.

We forget these days where suppliers give the NFL teams everything that some teams just wore practice jerseys in pre-season games. It looks like the Patriots were wearing those.

Also back in the late 60s/early 70s several teams had stripeless mesh jerseys worn in their pre-season and sometimes early season games before switching to striped durene jerseys once the weather cooled down. The Redskins were one of those teams - they wore the stripeless jerseys in 1969 (Lombardi's year) and again in 1970.
