GSL GOTW Week 3 - Miami (0-2) at Norfolk (1-1)

KDSF 970 is interested in acquiring the game broadcast rights for a "GSL Game of the Week" starting this Sunday, and if it goes well, one Sunday afternoon game each week for the rest of the year.  Jackson Tate will bring us the play-by-play, the legendary Dick Schaefer will be the game analyst and Whitney Jackson will report from the sidelines.  We are in talks with Drew Abernathy to host the pregame, halftime and postgame.  

The audio rebroadcast will tentatively be released on the Dick Schaefer YouTube channel the following Tuesday night/Wednesday morning.  Right now it's only got other radio stuff we've been doing recently, but I hope to have a lot of the old Dick Schaefer KDSF broadcasts from 2013-2015 uploaded to that channel shortly.  In the meantime they can be found on archive.org audio.

The only thing we'll need is a game to be selected in which both teams can provide a full depth chart and starting players, so I'll ask for volunteers of teams that have a game in the 1:00 or 4:30 time slot on Sunday to reply below if they'd be willing to provide a depth chart and any other news and notes they'd like to provide to the production crew, and the first Sunday game in which both teams respond may be selected.  (I hope it's the Miami-Norfolk game... to have Dick Schaefer broadcasting from Dick Price Stadium...  even I can't make this stuff up!)

Yeah I`d be willing to do it. If the slot is taken this week then any other week really. I think its great that Dick and company are planning a return. The Terror roster is on the website along with a bit of other info. I`m still working on the mobile site so the info is not there on that version, but all the pages are there on the site if you view it on a laptop.

Ok so so far Norfolk and Toronto are interested... that's great, if neither of your opponents jump in, we'll do a game of yours down the road... For now though still need to find a game with both teams this weekend.

OK I see Memphis and Louisville have rosters already posted in another thread, but Louisville played Thursday...  

So that leaves Memphis vs. Cincinnati, Miami vs. Norfolk and Toronto vs. San Antonio as options for this weekend in which we only lack one of the team's rosters.

I would love to have the Miami SOL in the game. I am just not good in selecting a team roster.

If you might be willing to help me out with that It would be a blast

That might be a task right up Curtis' alley....  What do you think, can you put together a roster for the Miami Sol?

(I'm in the same boat as you John ... my creativity is in avenues other than creating fictional rosters)

I saw you had your roster in the other thread, so I'm sure we'll be featuring Louisville in a future Game of the Week.(assuming that this works and progresses beyond this week)

Also I think Pennsylvania at Toronto will be a good match-up for Week 4, both teams 2-0 at the moment

I'm definitely interested! If NeauXone has a roster for me I'll use that, otherwise I'll come up with one today!

That's great.. well I think we're going to go with Miami at Norfolk for this week and Pennsylvania at Toronto for next week.  Then since it looks like there's enough interest and NeauxZone or someone else may be able to create rosters for those who don't make their own, therefore we'll do a game for every team.  Then later in the season, we'll do like Sunday Night Football does and choose a best matchup we can get with playoff implications the week before.  So we'll go forward as follows:

OK every team will appear at least once in the Game of the Week and then towards the end of the season we'll announce which game we'll be covering the following week.  It will be a Sunday Afternoon game to be considered, in order to not interfere with the other broadcast partners' Nationally Televised game rights.

Again this is all assuming this first game goes off without a hitch.

I'm working on something that should help make the game narrative a little easier. I'm going to make a more dedicated post about this elsewhere, but I'm in the process of generating live score updates for the GSL games. The first part of that is generating a score summary, which I just finished up work on today.

With any game score I can now break it down to individual scores, like this:

Technically, yes. But at the moment, I'm not sure I'm going to go back and do that, plus, I'm not sure I want to post score summaries at all, just have live updates to begin with. Rob and I are exploring another option for game summaries that could be even more in depth, but it will either require buying data from pro-football-reference (if that's a possible thing), or manually entering a ton of data ourselves, which won't be completed anytime soon. This is all a work in progress still.
