POST YOUR ODDITIES! 1942_b11

Found this photo while organizing some of my files. Been collecting for a few years now and have no ideal where I got this.
Looks like Bears vs. Giants (or maybe Redskins?) in the 1940s (file name is "bears-giants 1942"). Fellow in the background outside the end zone is wearing an overcoat and there appears to be snow on the ground, so this is probable late in the season (Nov.-Dec.?).

What’s odd is the fellow in the backfield on the right.
He seems to be wearing a uniform entirely different from the other players.
Have no clue who he is or what he’s doing there. Photo doesn’t appear to be photo shopped.
Have any ideas Tim?

Looks like stripes on the offensive team's uniform, which would mean it's Chicago. The lone game the Bears and Giants played that year was on October 18. The oddball uniform appears to have a six for the second digit.

Take a good hard look at the photo.

Look closely at the offensive line. and one of the guys in the backfield wearing a white helmet. Not everyone is a Bear. Now look at the defense. It looks to me like the whole team is attired in similar gear.

I'm taking a very educated guess and say it's one of the pre-LA Coliseum Pro Bowls. If it's the Redskins, then the pic is from the 12/27/42 Pro Bowl between the Redskins and the NFL All-Stars at Shibe Park in Philadelphia. Game was won by the All-Stars, 17-14. The All-Stars wore their own unis in the game.

I'm pretty sure this is the case. Hope this helps!

Most likely you're correct. The All-Stars won the game 17-14, but had tied it on a three-yard run by Bear running back John Petty. The back on the left has stripes and a dark helmet, with the second digit apparently a "0". The only team to match that combination was the Bears; anyone happen to know Petty's number that year? The other running back was either from the Chicago Cardinals or Brooklyn Dodgers. Taking a stab at it, I would say it was Merl Condit, but feel free to correct.

I agree; looks to be the All-Stars vs Redskins 1942. My guess on the players in the photo would be something like this.

6-Siegal-E_ 34-Adams-T_ 21-Cherundolo-C_ 14-Drulis-G_ 35-Artoe-T_ 30-Wilson-E
42-Luckman-QB_
8-Magnani-B_

10-Petty-B_ 35-Condit-B

Although this isn't exactly an oddity this is the only photo I've ever seen with bears players (presumably) wearing their orange pants Citra 1949
