1948 Brooklyn Dodgers Empty 1948 Brooklyn Dodgers

Question,

   The database for the 1948 Brooklyn Dodgers (AAFC) shows the team as wearing white plastic helmets with a blue stripe.
   I came across photos of Bob Chappuis and Bob Hoernschemeyer both wearing what appears to be white leather helmets with a blue stripe?
   Is it possible that both were used? I can't seem to find any photos showing that plastic helmets were used?
