GSL MVP Race Empty GSL MVP Race

Now that the season is starting to wind down, I found the time to catch up on stats and have compiled a list of what I believe to be the top 5 MVP candidates in the GSL. It's been a crazy year for QBs so the top 5 is filled out entirely by Quarterbacks. Here are who I consider to be the top 5 MVP candidates:
GSL MVP Race Image_10
While it looks to be a two man race, an argument can be made for each player on the list.
Kyle Harmon's arm has singlehandedly lifted San Antonio into the playoffs, with an insane 43:9 TD-INT ratio as well as the first 5K+ yard season in GSL history. A monster regular season for him that still has one more game left as seeding hasn't been finalized in the West.
On the other hand, Claude Vinson, with 37 touchdowns compared to just 12 interceptions, has lead his team beyond a wild card berth and has his team looking like the favorites to win it all, albeit with the help of one of the greatest football teams ever assembled.
Meanwhile, down in Memphis, gunslinger Trent Johnson has commanded a deadly Comet offense with 39 touchdowns, but had some costly turnovers along the way that could hurt his team in the playoffs if he doesn't get it together. But when he's on, he's a cold-blooded assassin who can take over games, which has him at number 3 in these rankings.
Number 4 is a questionable one, because there's a pretty big gap between him and the rest of the candidates on this list despite his crazy numbers. Jameill Davis of the Lightning has a monster arm, can run with the ball effectively, has one of the most accurate deep balls in the league, and has willed this team to victory down the stretch. But his tendency to play too aggressively has resulted in turnovers which have killed the Lightning in many games this year, and simultaneously dropped him in the MVP rankings.
Finally, to round out the list is a QB who's season is flying under the radar due to more impressive performances. Arizona QB Justin Parker has quietly assembled a 32-13 TD-INT season but isn't getting much of a campaign for MVP as the rest of these QBs. I think he's been the perfect QB for this team and has what it takes to lead them deep into the playoffs, but his numbers just don't hold up against the rest.

After week 19 I'll hold a poll where the rest of the forum members can vote for the League MVP.

GSL MVP Race Empty Re: GSL MVP Race

Additional disclaimer: I would like to say that these stats are mostly accurate, some extrapolation had to be done in order to cover for the missing stats in the first 6-7 games that didn't have play-by-play data attached. This shouldn't be much of a problem next season, plus I might not even have to compile stats at all.

Thanks for doing the work to get these stats together!

Yes, I'm really hoping I can have stats compiled easier, although, I'm not really sure how to attribute plays to particular players yet. The stats may end up out putting something like "QB pass to WR2 complete for 10 yards", or "RB1 runs left guard for gain of 6 yards". I'm not quite sure yet, but I need to get the basics down first, and so far, all I've got is idea's and no actual work done yet. It'll be a lot of work, and I'm putting some effort towards possible recruitment of help.

I'm not sure if I can help on the coding end of that, but I can offer a suggestion: Once you're able to have the positions set up if possible, my proposal is that team owners could provide their depth chart so that way the specific names could match up with the positions. I don't know if it would be a manual input type thing or if we'd just give you the names and you enter them in yourself, but I think that could work out once the system is in place.
Also, I'd be willing to help out with things like color vs. color and white at home sections, as well as footnotes under games (ex. NOR clinches EC 2nd Seed, Flexed from 1PM kickoff) if possible.

For rosters, there is a way, if I get a specific format back from everyone who submits a roster, I can pretty easily take that and put it into a database table. Basically, I'll just need a csv file (which could be in the form of an excel file), with specific columns, and row values. Bill gives me data like this all the time when we need to add a bunch of new information, like league schedules, into the GUD.

To attribute plays to specific players, that can be random. For example, the #1 receiver might get 50% of a team's targets, while the #1 running back gets 70% of the teams carries. This is all another layer of complexity though that I'd have to work up to.

As for color v color, and white at home, I can copy and paste GUD code. Those pages are just one php file each, but it depends on me marking all of the color uniforms in the database. I have a little script that helps me do that, but I just have to set all this up for the GSL. It's probably more of an offseason task.

Lastly, the footnotes stuff is something you may be able to help with. If I was given a file with the week and the game, and the note that the game should have, I can just go through the list and enter the information, using some other little scripts I have that we use to update information in the database, then upload back to the site.
