The Death of the PAC-12 Empty The Death of the PAC-12

Post  sfcom1 Sat Aug 05, 2023 1:57 am

With great saddness I hereby Pronounce the PAC-12 Conference (Once The Conference of Champions) Dead! With the Loss of Oregon and Washington to the Big 10 (Now 18 schools deep) and Now Arizona, Arizona State, and Utah are joining Colorado and are headed to the Big 12. That leaves only Cal, Stanford, Washington State, and Oregon State (USC and UCLA where already gone to the Big 10 next year anyway) holding the bag.

With the PAC-12 now "Officially" dead, the only other "Power 5" Conferences left are the ACC and the SEC (and the ACC only has a few real good teams in Clemson, Florida State, and Miami!), And then might not last longer. Soon it could be 2 to 3 Super Conferences! And a breakaway from the NCAA!

RIP Pacific 12 Conference!

I can't believe the Pac 12 collapsed so quickly.

RIP Pac 12.

Crazy how quickly that fell apart. Once USC and UCLA left for the B1G, that pretty much signaled the end. The B1G pretty much spelled out they were going to take Oregon and Washington next.

It's going to make the new playoff format interesting, because I think the plan was to have all the power 5 conference champions get an automatic bid. But there really isn't a power 5 anymore.

I hope the four remaining PAC teams can find conference homes soon

I am hearing the remaining PAC teams may merge with the Mountain West and become the PAC West. It is a rumor though.

I also hope the rumoured ACC move for Cal and Stanford comes true because it would be funny to have pacific teams in an Atlantic conference

Personally, I would love to see the Big 10 add the remaining four Pac-12 schools (California, Stanford, Washington State, and Oregon State) to their conference so we can have the "Big 10 West" division with the original Pacific 8 teams (PAC-10/12 predecessor). I see this as an opportunity to keep the original teams together and their historic rivalries alive.

+The Big 10 can use the Rose Bowl as their championship game, keeping the East-West January tradition alive.
