Does anyone know why they switched from red to black numbers on the white jerseys during the season?

I think the strangest part of that whole thing is that 7 years later they went back to red numbers on the white jerseys.

Jerry Glanville was coach from 1990-93 so maybe his departure after 1993 was, in part, why they were 'able' to go back to red in 1997.
