Great database! When embarking on something this large there is bound to be omissions that need to be discovered going forward. That's not to diminish the great work you have put in.

That said, the 1973 Philadelphia Eagles helmets appears to need an update. The green wings on the white helmet are outlined in black:

I know these are hard to see but these were the best I could find on the net. The second one shows the outline much better.

The reason I noticed this is because this particular helmet, the 1973 Eagles helmet, is one of my favorites!

Thanks again!

I think you're going to need to find better evidence for this one. This is one of those hotly debated helmets that no one is entirely sure about. The helmet project says that there probably wasn't an outline - that it's an optical illusion due to the poor image quality.

I'm not seeing an outline on your top picture, though it does sorta maybe look like there could be one on the other shot.

There is a 1973 NFL Films "Game of the Week" featuring the Eagles on Hulu... http://www.hulu.com/watch/205540/game-of-the-week-philadelphia-eagles-at-buffalo-bills-week-4-1973

...after watching a few minutes, it's pretty obvious there is no black outline.

#62 is pretty well lit up and no outline is visible

Roman's pretty well illuminated and no outline is visible

and #77 has a sunspot lighting up his wing decal

even blown up abit the bottom of the wing is clearly plain green to me.

I've been hearing about this one for years. I can say with 100% certainty that there was NO black outline on the wings.

Nonetheless, larrypep, we certainly appreciate your help and interest!

Maybe it's me but 77 looks to have a black outline.

How about this pic of Norm Snead?

I watched the hulu link. There were a few closeups and yes, it looks like there was no black outline on the wing.

You guys are obviously the experts. I saw this link on Helmethut, what are your thoughts on this?

If you look at the wings on the player on the left the "outline" is definitely not even which would lead me to believe that it's due to the photograph.

Yes, this has been one hotly contested issue for years but I have NEVER SEEN A BLACK OUTLINE ON THE WINGS, I collect everything that I can from the 1969-1973 era because that is when I became an Eagles fan at age 9 and these were my favorite uniforms and helmets as well. That Roman Gabriel picture is from the 1973 highlights and you can see on the high quality highlight film that there is no outline on that Gabriel helmet in that very frame. I have gone over the 1973 Yearbook, highlight film and other NFL Films highlight from 1973 and have seen no evidence of that black outlined wing. I am not ruling out that maybe a couple of helmets may have been outlined for whatever reason but the team as a whole did not have those outlined wings. A case in point, Steve Zabel #89 had a differant font for the numbers on his uniform during the 1970 season, the numbers were larger and more full than the rest of the team and it was very obvious. I am sure that this was just a case of the equipment supplier accidentally using the wrong font but his uniform was the only one like that. Also in 1973, in the last game ever played at Yankee Stadium between the Eagles and Giants, Jerry Sisemore, #76, had his jersey literally torn off and the equipment manager had to give him another jersey which was a #79 and it had no name on the back, all teams had to have their players name on the back of the uniform starting in the 1970 season and it even threw me for a loop because I was thinking, who is #79 and why is there no name on his jersey, then I saw the highlights and Sisemore is shown coming off the field and his jersey is almost in 2 pieces. Hope this helps and Have a Great Night everyone.

Thank you for the link.
Yea in my opinion there might be at least a case where a player had the wings painted and not decalled.in the helmet i have ,the wings are painted and seems it was used for 3 different players since has 2 numbers screched and has the recondition sticker in the helmet ,meaning it was sent to the company to re check the helmet before being used to another player the season after...and who would try to fake a helmet and paint detailed wings that show signs and is dated to the 70s?
Interesting facts to throw out there
