1968 Denver Broncos Photos
Hi,
I'm new to the site - it's fantastic! - and I was hoping I could ask for some help. I'm researching a Broncos helmet that is attributed to 1968. Just trying to verify the font style on the numbers on the back is accurate. So...long shot, but didn't know if anyone out there had a photo from 1968 (or I suppose 1969) of a player wearing # 12. I believe in 1968 #12 was the back up QB/Punter Joe DiVito.
Thanks so much!
(and I tried to post pictures but got a message saying as a new member I can't post pictures for 7 days so I will try later)

Jake,
Welcome to the GUD! And thanks for the kind message.
According to pro-football-reference.com, you are right, #12 was worn by Joe DeVito on the 1968 Broncos.

Bill, you can make out most of the helmet 2 on the player on the far right...

just an observation...the pic shows the uniform numbers as all white for 1968...in the database the numbers are white with blue trim...maybe an update to datebase?

Actually, due to the brightness of the orange on the film, it does become difficult to see but if you look at the left sides of Briscoe's numbers and the left side of the 2 on the player to Briscoe's right you can make out the thin blue border. This was part of the problem we encountered when trying to remedy the late 60s pants stripes issues. The orange was showing up darker than the blue making the pattern look inverted from what it really was.
Check out the thread "Broncos "D" Logo Variance AND 1967 & 1968 Denver Broncos." About half way through the conversation starts to turn to the pants stripes.

Here's a pic of a Steve Tensi jersey from '67-68. The blue outline on the numbers is so thin it almost looks like they just sewed the white numbers on with blue thread rather than having an actual blue feathered edge:

Did the seller get the description wrong? Broncos never wore baby blue as far as I know.

The pic on this card has Jacques wearing an Oilers uni (their '64-65 set).

Re: 1968 Denver Broncos Photos
For some mysterious reason, Topps' 1969 baseball and football card sets used "old" photos. Most of the 1st-4th series baseball cards had virtually no shots from the previous season (1968), but rather 1967 and before, in some cases as old as 1962. But when the 6th and 7th series cards came out, they were up to date with 1969 spring training shots.
The 1969 football set also featured shots that were from 1967 and before. So this shot of Jacques from 1964 or 1965 comes as no surprise at all.
Which leads to this lesson. DO NOT always depend on football cards as gospel.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the response I appreciate it! I actually have that Tensi jersey in my collection. I will take some close up pictures of the numbers and post them - the numbers on the Tensi do have blue feathered edges. Also, technically challenged...how do I post pictures? Sorry for the simple question.
Thanks again
Tom
