That’s now two straight losses for Chattanooga which may suggest that the River Monsters are only good at beating Providence. For Los Angeles this win puts them ahead of Dallas for the time being and into the playoffs.

Unfortunately their opponent just so happens to be the top team in the CBFL in the Sacramento Scorpions and the game will be played in Sacramento, thus making the odds of a Providence victory slim at best.

Remember when Chattanooga was number one in the power rankings? Since then they’ve been on quite the losing streak while Dallas keeps their playoff hopes alive.

The madmen have done it, Providence keeps their playoff hopes alive with one of the biggest upsets of the year. While Sacramento is still the number one seed in the Western Conference, there may be a chance Los Angeles could pull ahead if Sacramento goes on a Chattanooga style losing streak.

Week 11 will also be rescheduled to Thursday and Friday that week because of the GSL playoffs, the CBFL will resume its Friday and Saturday format during week 12

Chattanooga is officially the top seed in the East as neither Providence nor Columbus can beat them in a tiebreaker. For Columbus, this is the worst time to have a losing skid and if Providence wins tomorrow next week’s Columbus Providence game could decide the final playoff spot in the Eastern conference.

I was mistaken yesterday by saying Providence needed to win to set up a play and you’re in game next week against Columbus, Providence can still lose and next week’s game against Columbus will still be a win and you’re in game as both teams will have the same record and the winner will obviously have the better record and thus head on down to Chattanooga.

Providence’s next game will move to Gillette Stadium as the team expects a huge crowd for the win and you’re in game vs Columbus. All of Providence’s home games moving forward will take place at Gillette Stadium as the drive to Gillette Stadium from Providence is similar to driving to Gillette Stadium from Boston.

Next week will also be Los Angeles’ final home game in Los Angeles before the team relocates to New Orleans next season. In the CBFL lore this is because the Coyotes couldn’t draw fans due to the GSL’s Express having a great season and the UCLA and USC to the Big Ten news taking away all of the attention from the Coyotes.

THIS IS WHY WE PLAY THE GAMES. I don’t know how Dallas was able to pull this off but now they have a slim chance at getting in the playoffs if they beat Los Angeles next week (I believe LA leads all the tiebreakers so a Dallas win won’t matter anyway if both teams finish 5-9). Sacramento must be looking ahead to their matchup with Chattanooga this week though maybe not as Chattanooga is looking like a buzzsaw right now and Sacramento has had some suspect performances as of late.

-The final CBFL regular season game to take place in Los Angeles, this one does not have many stakes as LA could still lose this game and still make the playoffs if both teams finish 5-9.

-The confines of Hornet Stadium have not been kind to Sacramento recently as they’ve lost 3 of the last 4 home games and with last week’s beat down at the hands of Dallas, many expect Chattanooga to have a similar performance in this potential Super Cup matchup in three weeks.

Los Angeles secures their playoff spot next week as Dallas joins Columbus as a non playoff team. I didn’t know Dallas had a shot at the playoffs until I was doing the standings during the week, but seeing that they spent half the season playing catch-up to Los Angeles it was pretty easy to discount them as a playoff team. For Los Angeles, the CBFL will not be going back to the city until Super Cup 5 when the Rose Bowl hosts the game (I’ll unveil the hosts for Super Cups 3, 4, and 5 during the bye week before Super Cup 2) or if Sacramento is hosting an instate/region game away from Sacramento (which they are next season but that game’s location will be announced during the bye week before Super Cup 2 as well).

Chattanooga wins a close one in Sacramento as the River Monsters are getting hot at the right time. The same cannot be said of Sacramento who cannot win at home as of late. That being said the playoffs begin next Saturday as Chattanooga hosts Providence at 1pm ET and Sacramento hosts Los Angeles at 4:30pm ET. Playoff previews will come during the week.

This is probably the worst matchup Providence could hope for as Chattanooga has been dominant over the Steamrollers, especially on the road (weeks 1 and 6) as Chattanooga blew Providence out in both games. However this game is taking place in Chattanooga where Providence has won one game and only lost by two points in the other game, which means Providence could do well in this playoff matchup between two rivals. Both teams have won 4 out of their last 5 games heading into the playoffs.

This matchup is even more lopsided than Providence and Chattanooga as Sacramento has been able to score at will against the Coyotes. Asides from Los Angeles’ week 6 win, the Scorpions have simply owned the Coyotes in all their matchups. That being said Sacramento has not been playing well as of late, having only won 2 of their last 5 games with those three losses coming at home. This could play a factor in this upcoming playoff tilt even though Sacramento did beat the brakes off Los Angeles 42-6 the last time these two faced off and the game was in Sacramento no less.

Providence is going to the Super Cup! After barely missing out last season, the Steamrollers make it to the big dance at Annapolis. Providence jumped out to a 10 point lead in the first quarter and never looked back. Providence awaits the winner of Sacramento and Los Angeles for Super Cup 2 in two weeks.

It’s underdog vs underdog in Super Cup 2 as Los Angeles wins a shocker in Hornet Stadium. A Super Cup victory would be the perfect send off for Coyote fans as the team moves to New Orleans next season.

CBFL league announcements
1: Super Cup 2 will take place at Navy Marine Corps Memorial Stadium next Saturday August 20th at 6pm Eastern Time. The game will be played on Navy’s normal field because I like the checkered end zones and we’re getting close to the College Football season.
2: Super Cup 3 will take place at Mercedes’ Benz Stadium in Atlanta Georgia, Super Cup 4 will take place at NRG Stadium in Houston and Super Cup 5 will take place at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena.
3: The CBFL will run a single round robin season this winter spanning from Thanksgiving to New Year’s Eve. Season 3 will be the last one to consist solely of CBFL teams as I would like to invite the teams in the Canadian Bacon Invitational to a 16 team league in the fall of 2023.
4: As such the CBFL will change its name to the United Football Association.
5: Pending Rob’s approval I would like to replace CSKA Moscow in La Lega with Bayern Munich if that’s ok.

It is not a close game as Providence, a team who barely missed out on playing in the first Super Cup game and looked pedestrian until the end of this season hoists the Super Cup over a Los Angeles squad who will be moving to New Orleans for the Canadian Bacon Invitational as well as future seasons of the CBFL/United Football Association. For Providence they’ll have to wait until Thanksgiving for their next name. The now New Orleans Lions will play in the Canadian Bacon Invitational. Stay tuned and see you all for the CBI.
