1966 COWBOYS REQUEST
Along the same lines as my 1960 AFL request, I have a new one for the GUD faithful.
In 1966, the Dallas Cowboys wore 2 different varieties of white jersey (only one blue jersey) - one with 2 thick sleeve stripes and one with 3 thin sleeve stripes. I believe the thin-striped version was their warm weather jersey worn early in the season while the other was worn in the latter part of the season.
Getty has provided me with...
9/18/66 - NYG@DAL - 3 STRIPES
11/06/66 - DAL@PHIL - 2 STRIPES
12/11/66 - WASH@DAL - 2 STRIPES
CG - DAL@GB - 2 STRIPES
Can someone out there help fill in some of the gaps, please?

It is my understanding that the Cowboys wore the three-striped version (along with funky, non-serif uni numbers) during the first two regular season games only. Their 1966 team photo shows two stripes, which means it must have been snapped later in the year.

So you're saying just weeks 2 & 3? They had a bye for the 1st week and then played the next 2 at home.
Week 4 was at Atlanta and they were forced to wear the blue jerseys.

Yes, weeks 2 & 3. I remember someone at Uni Watch contending that. This Life article from 1966 shows them wearing two stripes at RFK and in a game vs. St. Louis (either at home or on the road).

Re: 1966 COWBOYS REQUEST
The Cardinals picture must be Week 13 @ Dallas as the Cards went WAH against Dallas earlier in the year.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Yeah I'd recognize those concrete supports behind the outfield wall at Busch Stadium anywhere. Must be from Week 6.
The other photo form the Life article therefore had to be from Week 13 STL @ Dallas
Also found this from Week 5 Oct 9 PHIL @ DAL
It would be great to get a shot from that Week 3 vs Minny to confirm it.

Re: 1966 COWBOYS REQUEST
I checked the Cleveland Plain Dealer the day after the week seven Dallas @ Cleveland game on 10/23. The Boys wore their blue jerseys that had three stripes on them. I also checked the 11/24 (Thanksgiving) game between the two teams in Dallas, but the previously posted photo has already confirmed the two-stripe white jersey. Below is a Getty Images photo:

The photo link below is supposedly (Renfro had an 87-yard return in this game) from the 10/30/66 Steelers @ Cowboys game--the Boys are wearing the white two-stripe jerseys:

Re: 1966 COWBOYS REQUEST
So it's entirely possible they wore the three-striped road jerseys all through 1966.

Re: 1966 COWBOYS REQUEST
Thanks guys!
They only had 1 blue jersey design - with the 3 stripes.
The problem was a 2-stripe design AND a 3-stripe design of different versions of white jersey.
I think we got that pretty well settled.
Great job guys!

I always assumed that when they modified the home whites, they did the same to the road blues. Woops.

Found this photo in my files that I believe is from the Oct. 10 1965 game at the Cotton Bowl.Bill Schaefer wrote:Thanks guys!

The Eagle player at the far left looks like #73 Ed Khayat. Khayat played for the Eagles from 1958-61 and in 1964 and 65.
In ‘66 he played for the Boston Patriots. No Eagle player wore #73 during 1966.
The Cowboy player (#13) with the two strip jersey is Jerry Rhome.

The next photos I believe are from the same game and show that #20 (Mel Refro) might also be wearing a two strip jersey.

Great photos! It can't be 1964 since the Eagles switched to the jersey we see here in 1965. In 1964 they had basic green jerseys with white NW stripes on the sleeve.

Re: 1966 COWBOYS REQUEST
All,
I did heavy duty research on this one and can definitely tell you that this is how it went down in 1966:
Blue jersey: Three stripes on sleeves and socks all season.
White jersey: Three stripes sleeves and three stripes blue socks for home games with Giants and Vikings.
Two stripes sleeves and two stripes blue socks for rest of season, home and away.

I concur. One other thing: Those first two home games featured cheap, screenprinted uni and TV numbers, which were replaced by sewn-on numbers when the Boys went to two stripes.
